Life is Suffering
08 July 2026First Encounter With Buddhism
When I was in my last semester as an undergraduate, I took a comparative religions course, where five major religions were emphasised, including Buddhism. I remember that first contact with the Four Noble Truths. I wasn’t convinced, but kept tossing around the ideas in my head.
Starting Meditation
When I was 36, I began meditating. I was waiting for my son to enter the world and I wanted to be in the best state possible, so I could be the best dad. I came back across the Four Noble Truths and thought, “Life isn’t suffering!” That tells you how sheltered my own life had been to that point!
Suffering in Life
If you are young and have lived a protected life - like Siddhartha Gautama himself had - you might not believe that life is suffering. When you have experienced sickness, death and loss, your perspective changes and you see that nothing is permanent. We all suffer at some point and, as we get older, that suffering increases.
An End to Suffering
This site is about exploring liberation from suffering. Pain is physical sensations, but suffering is what we do in our minds. Through meditation, contemplation, metta, developing empathy, gratitude practice, considerations of Dependent Arising and so much more, we are going to explore the end of suffering.
